Biography: Dawnell Dryja

Experience: Dawnell Dryja is originally from Canton, MIchigan where she trained under her mother, Dawn Greene. She has been dancing professionally for fifteen years in companies such as Cincinnati Ballet, Tulsa Ballet, Dayton Ballet, Metropolitan Ballet Theatre (of Detroit), Utah Ballet and currently for Grand Rapids Ballet. Dawnell has been teaching ballet, pointe, and variations for the past ten years. She has taught and ballet mistressed for many schools, summer programs, and competitions including Grand Rapids Ballet School, Dance Masters, Oak Ridge Ballet, Ballet Theatre of Toledo, Burklyn Ballet Theatre, Cecchetti Council of America, among others. Some of the roles Dawnell has enjoyed performing are Titania in A Midsummer Nights Dream, Sugar Plum and Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, Della in The Gift of the Magi, Lila York’s Celts and Rapture, Balanchine ballets, such as, Jewels, Divertimento No. 15,Who Cares, Allegro Brilliante, and Slaughter on Tenth Avenue. Dawnell has had the opportunity to work with esteemed choreographers and teachers such as Nils Christe, Fredrick Franklin, Kirk Peterson, Val Caniporoli, Raymond Lukens, and Stanton Welch to name a few.
