The Moving Company

Dance Attack: August 25-28

The Dance Attack provides an opportunity for students to take up to 24 classes in a self-designed program that meets their own dance needs and scheduling demands. The Moving Company staff and performing professionals work hard to prepare an intensive summer dance program in all disciplines. The Moving Company completes its one week dance intensive with an evening stage performance at Wealthy Theatre on Thursday night where we will showcase all the routines learned throughout the week.

2009 Instructors

Katie Schaar was born and raised in Texas. A competitive dancer and creative soul, Katie moved to Los Angeles shortly after high school to persue her passion...DANCE! She has assisted Mia Michaels and Tyce Diario on "So You Think You Can Dance" for the past two seasons. She is also a member of Gregg Russell's "Tap Sounds" a professional tap dancing group based out of LA. Katie recently worked on ABC's "Dance Machine" and just returned from Spain where she was assisting Nick Florez on the Spanish hit "Quiero Bailar!" On top of all these amazing credits, Kaite also judges for several national dance competitions and teaches all over the country. This will be Katie's second trip to Grand Rapids for the Dance Attack.

Tony Elliott is an East Grand Rapids native who was trained here at the Moving Company. Since graduating for EGRHS in 2004, Tony has moved to Los Angeles and completed a year of scholarship at the EDGE Performing Arts Center in Hollywood. Upon completing that program, Tony has continued to follow his dreams of dance and fashion. He has had TV appearances on Comedy Central, been in multiple music videos, filmed two movies, and even worked as a fashion consultant for some of Hollywood's hottest stars. Tony looks forward to teaching Dance Attack at the studio he grew up in!

Markus Shields joined Moving Company staff during the summer of 2007. He is an incredible hip hop dancer and an amazing teacher. Markus started his dance career "later" in life at the age of 15 but that hasn't stopped him from achieving more than most dancers do in their lifetime. Markus has made it into the quarter finals for "So You Think You Can Dance" two years in a row. Nigel complemented him by saying that he could see Markus' choreographic moves being performed as back up dancing for top artists like Rihanna. Markus plans to move to Los Angeles to further pursue his life as a dancer in September so don't miss out...catch him at 2008's Dance Attack.

Raymond Love is also a Grand Rapids resident. Raymond began dancing at a young age and is diverse in his skills. Along with being a nationally recognized hip hopper, Love is trained in classical ballet, contemporary, lyrical, tribal, praise dance, and martial arts. Enthusiastic about his love for dance, Raymond is a fabulous teacher who has been using dance as a tool to change children's lives for the past six years. Watch for Mr. Love here at Moving Co in the fall!
